Cycling to Save the World - Earth Day 2019
Posted by Bike Attack on Apr 20th 2019
Monday, April 22, 2019 is Earth Day. Many are celebrating Earth Day by bringing awareness to how we can contribute to doing our part to save the environment. Every. Gesture. Counts. Choosing to use a reusable aluminum water container instead of single use plastic bottles, choosing to use sustainable products, simply being more conscious of waste, every gesture counts. The gesture we're here to talk about today is cycling. You being a cyclist is more impactful than you may know and here is how.
Fossil Fuels
No more fossil fuels- cycling just a 5 mile commute everyday can save up to 100 gallons of gas per year. Using your bike to run errands, the mileage adds up and the effect just one single person deciding to cycle instead of drive has is phenomenal.
Pollution
Cycling drastically reduces noise pollution, air pollution, water pollution and traffic pollution.
Fact: cars are noisy. People are noisy. Noise causes stress.
Gas guzzling automobiles all have exhausts that spit out poisonous carbon monoxide and particles that turn into smog.
Cars leak motor oil, antifreeze, brake fluid, all of which goes onto our roads and get washed off into our oceans.
Traffic pollution is the accumulation of all of the pollution caused during traffic hours by automobiles.
Money CAN Grow
You save money: Car repairs vs. Bike repairs / Parking / Fuel costs / Upkeep / Car Insurance / Healthcare
Yes, a car is more comfortable than a bike. But do you know what's more comfortable than a car? Healthy finances and a healthy body. Cycling improves your health. Fact. Being a healthy person will cut costs on health issues, especially if you continue to use
Resources
Takes less to make a bike. The resources used to create, run, and maintain a car are exponentially more damaging to the environment than the same for the life of a bicycle.
Pop Culture Gets Involved
Celebrities such as Jason Momoa, of Game of Thrones and Aquaman fame, shaved his beard to bring awareness to how aluminum is 100% recyclable while plastic is incredibly damaging to the environment as well as our own health. Rapper and comedian Lil Dicky has just released his music video of his song "Earth" featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Halsey, Bad Bunny, PSY, Zac Brown, Miley Cyrus, Sia, Snoop Dogg and countless other celebrities.
