Biking and Knee Pain
Posted by BikeAttack on Mar 16th 2016
Biking can place pressure on the knee joints, leading to inflammation, pain, and limited mobility. The good news is that you can prevent many forms of biking-related knee pain by following some simple steps. Here's what you need to know about biking and knee pain.
Don't Push Yourself
There are dozens of possible causes of biking-related knee pain, one the most common is overexertion. Biking for long distances will continue to stress your joints, which can lead to debilitating knee pain. To prevent this from happening, it's recommended that you keep your rides within a reasonable distance and avoid overexertion.
There's nothing wrong with pushing yourself every once in a while, but everything in moderation. Talk to your doctor and/or a physical therapist to see what is a reasonable amount of exertion for your body, everyone is different. Signs of overexertion may include shortness of breath, vertigo/dizziness and muscle cramps and physical pain.
Find The Right Bike
Having the right bike with the right specs for you is the best thing you can do for your body. Establishing a relationship with your local bike shop (Ahem! Bike Attack) is vital in finding the right bike for you. You can check out specs online to your heart's content, but a professional consult at your bike shop is invaluable. You can explore options, test out tires, brakes, pedals. You may even find that an electric bike is more up your alley (Ahem!! Electric Bike Attack).
